Documentary Synopsis

For my documentary photography project, I am going to focus on the topic Recycle. Nowadays, plastic, paper, and glass materials make our life a lot easier than what it is before. We see things made of those materials daily. However, we create tons of garbage that ruins our environment. Some of them are harmful to people’s health as they are not disposed properly. At the same time, the raw material resources are reducing because the huge demand each day. The question is rising- Why people do not recycle those materials in an appropriate way?
I think we do not pay attention to the idea of recycling. For instance, plastic bags are made for the purpose of convenience. Generally, people dispose the garbage in whichever way works best for them in term of convenience. Most of us do not know the proper way to dispose certain garbage, such as metal, glass, and used batteries. There is certain knowledge we need to get acquainted with before we talk about recycling.
My story is going to talk about why it is important to recycle, how to recycle properly, and the effects of disposing material inappropriately. I think I can talk to someone who works for the recycle company to gather some information. Also, I will talk to people see what their attitudes towards this issues are.

Documentary Assignment Ideas

My documentary photography project is about the environment. Speaking of environment, my plan is going to take picture of the messy street to show how people throw garbage inappropriately. This problem is ruining the environment we live in. I also want to take some pictures of clean and tidy places to show the contrast between these two in order to emphasize the significance of keeping the city clean. Since I do not know how many pictures we actually need, I do not have every frames planned out yet. However, the pictures will show the thesis I have written above. A garbage bin with trash around it will perhaps be one of my pictures. Some of them I want to edit them to black and white version. I think in this way it will show more emotion to the audiences. I hope this idea will work well.

Rick Sammon- Landscape tutorial

1.     Chasing the light. Photographers try to capture the best light of the day to create the beautiful shadow in landscape. Use a wide-angle lens, do not shoot at the f-22.
2.     Take both horizontal and vertical shots. Sometimes, sunset is not the best time for landscape photography.
3.     Pay attention to horizon line; place the line in either top or bottom.
4.     There is no bad day for photography. Some weather can add dramas to photography.
5.     Walk around the scène; try different perspectives of the same scene.
6.     Place a fore ground element in the scene, it makes the photography more interesting. Foreground elements give viewers angle and place them in the scene. It makes the picture comes alive.
7.     Make contrast between land, plants and water. It makes your pictures look sharper.
