Lighting

Back light:
Backlight photography consist of doing what almost every digital camera manual will tell you not to do… Placing the light source behind the subject. Using such photography technique will trick the camera light sensor into believing that the light source is strong while in fact the subject being photographed has less light than it’s surrounding.

Fill light :The light that makes the "shadow side" of things visible, called fill light. In photography we define the fill light as one not creating any (as few as possible) visible shadows.

Hair lighthref="file:///C:%5CUsers%5CTEMP%5CAppData%5CLocal%5CTemp%5Cmsohtmlclip1%5C01%5Cclip_themedata.thmx" rel="themeData">
A hair light is usually a small lighting unit placed on a boom so it shines down from above and behind the subject. It is used to lighten the hair (or hat) and shoulders, add detail to the hair, and separate the subject from the background, presenting the illustration.

Key light: the key light is usually placed to one side of the subject's face, between 30 and 60 degrees off center and a bit higher than eye level. The key light is the brightest light in the lighting plan.

color temperature/describe: Color temperature is a characteristic of visible light that has important applications in lighting, photography, video-graphy, publishing, manufacturing, astrophysics, and other fields. The color temperature of a light source is the temperature of an ideal black-body radiator that radiates light of comparable hue to that light source.

Bresson

1. What kind of photography was Bresson best-known for? What subjects was he interested in?
documentary. He as interested in shooting photography of people while they were in common life. He shot plenty of pictures in this topic. Especially, he portraits objects without interrupting.
2.what did you learn about Photography form watching this documentary? Be specific. Think about how he chose his subjects. what were his technical strengths as a photographer? What made his pictures "special"?
Good pictures show love and story. stories varies with different people. The pictures he enjoyed to take are the ones evoke strong emotion. Those pictures make viewers to ponder the stories behind. I learned that portrait shooting will be improved by leaving free space between object and surrounding. The more emotion the pictures contain, the more viewers will enjoy.
3. Use three words to describe Bresson's photography. Only three. Be unique! Be vivid!
reality. pensive. Emotion.

Video review

We watched the video during class on Friday. It talked about some really neat technique about Photoshop. One of those talked about how to turn the figure into transparent. First, you need to make a new layer out of the original background. You can select the layer levels, correct the level setting. You can select the magic tool the select the figure which you want to alert. You can change the property setting opacity from 100% to 0%. The figure will be invisible.
Another tool we learn is the “sparkle” technique. You need to combine a dark layer and a random texture layer. Then by using guassian blur, you will have an special effect of sparkle. Use level to decay the background color; you will have a sparkle picture. Add this layer to the picture you want to make the effect of, you can transform the sparkle layer any time.

Five favorite places at school

Front office
the gym
cafeteria
student parking lot
softball field
Those places above are familiar with most of the PAA students. We spend majority time at this places when we are not in class. Seeing these pictures, I have a lot of memory coming up to me. I remembered I was getting my schedule at school and running to my classes. Even though I do not have PE class any longer, the PE class was impressive. After all morning classes, I always cannot wait until the lunch time comes. Time goes fast when we are simply eating and chatting with friends. There is a place you have to go twice everyday if you drive. Of course it it the student parking lot. Somehow, the softball field is spectacular. The green grass and sunshine energize students. Those are the places I enjoy at school. Sure there are more area fascinate me,  but I am pretty satisfied about my top five choices so far.

outside five pictures

The picture has contrary color. The object is in the middle of the picture to attract views' attention. The imagine correction makes the picture better. The picture has more color layers. It used to be just simple yellow of the flower. After the correction, the orange can be seen on the flower.

The rose color is faded. It makes the rose's color layered. The leaves on the background make the rose more attractive for the viewers.
The best part of this picture is the leaves. Although the middle object is not large enough for viewers. But it still attract attentions.

The rose bud is the contrast with the leaves background.

I like the soft color of the rose. It doesn't like the red rose that has a bright color. The background is vague that accentuates the rose's color.

Learn about the process of basic imagine correction

The knowledge we learned this week is basically about Photoshop imagine correction. Using the shoes project, we learned several ways can make our picture better.
The first one is to set up the photo size for the shoes. We want the shoes, which is our main object to be placed in the center. Thus, we use the “crop” tool to adjust the photo. To adjust the tonality of the shoes picture, we used the “levels” tool. level” is a tool to adjust the overall tonality. The second tool we have learned is “Brightness & Contrast” tool. This tool can adjust the brightness in more detail. Through this tool, the picture can be really vivid without being strange. “Hue/Saturation” is another tool for adjust the overall color. The more saturation the picture has, the color would be more accentuated. About the “Channel Mixer”, I personally like it because it can help use to adjust the magnitude of red, blue and green individually. If I can choose my favorite tool this week, “Healing Brush” will rank the first. I really like it can fix the little detail of our photo. Contrast with the other tools, this can be used to fix little part of our picture.
The layer adjustment is the other thing we learned about Photoshop this week. Putting our each correction of picture into separate layers is necessary. In this way, we do not need to worry to start over again if we made any tiny mistakes. That saves a lot of work. When we find out we do not need the correction any longer, we can just drag the layer to the trash icon. If we need to do something further base on the previous correction, we can just duplicate the layer and add more. We acquaintance how to view our correction is a proper way by putting them in certain order. The “Eye Icon” will be able to help use to determine which correction is needed.
All the tools and adjustment about Photoshop are useful. There are certainly more function of them which I do not mention of. I wish I could remember them in a better way.

The DSLR

The DSLR simply means digital single lens reflection. A DSLR camera is made of the body and lens. The main body is the machine that captures the imagine. The lens is the machine we use to alert the imagine we want. Different lens can make the imagine diverse. The wide angle lens can accentuate the imagine angle. Using a zoom lens will make the photographer be able to zoom in the imagine before exposure. There are several buttons on the shooting model dial, M, A, Tv and P. "PASM" dial, they typically provide as minimum Program, Aperture-priority, Shutter-priority, and full Manual modes.
The exposure generally refers a single shutter cycle. Usually the exposure will be automatic exposure is the total amount of light allowed to fall on the photographic medium (photographic film or imagine sensor) during the process of taking a photograph. There is a physics equation of exposure, H=Et. H stands luminous exposure. E stands image-plane illuminance. The t stands the time of exposure.
